There are 49 major slums in this municipality. Many of these slums suffer from various infrastructural shortcomings and service deficiencies in the nature of broken septic tanks, open defecation systems, inadequate quantity of drinking water, water logging due to improper drainage, broken roads, inefficient solid waste management etc. Slum infrastructure improvement plan should also aim at providing basic minimum services to the informal Squatter settlement. generally ,these clusters lying outside the demarcate slum areas of the ULB are located on service land (i.e. land beside main roads, pavement, canals, railway tracks etc).Projects undertaken as a part of slum infrastructure improvement plan should therefore to seek to provide service to urban poor, resident in notified and non notified slums, and squatter settlements in the ULB. The development activities aimed at addressing these gaps for improving the living conditions of the slum dwellers. Accordingly all the slums have been considered for improvement under this plan and appropriate projects have been designed for bridging the gaps to a feasible extent. Projects have been planned for the improvement of roads, water supply, and drainage systems and for the maintenance of existing slum Infrastructure.
